U Labs
Students will have the opportunity to participate in The University of Utah concurrent lab course Physics 2015. They will earn college lab credit by participating in these labs. Brighton students will participate with students from a number of other high schools in the valley.
Labs take place traditionally on Thursdays in the Fall, and on Wednesdays or Thursdays in the Spring. Labs occur every three weeks or so (the exact dates will depend on the total number of student enrolled). The participating high schools are assigned to groups, and groups are scheduled for labs on certain nights.
Tuition is about $150 for 10 labs, 5 completed each semester. Payment and registration information will be given in class.
If a parent is an employee of The U, you may qualify for a tuition reduction. Please see the section at the bottom of this page.
Since this is a college course, you will be expected to attend every lab on your designated evenings. However, should you miss a lab (after every effort has been made to attend another night with another group) there is one makeup lab in the Spring. Make no mistake, this course is a commitment on your part but it is well worth the effort.

50% Tuition Reduction for Students of UofU Parents
1) Turn in registration and a check for only $75 (half tuition) to Ms Carlson.
2) Ms. Carlson will hand in the registration and check to the lab coordinator. As soon as the lab coordinator forwards the registration to Registrar, the student will get a student ID number (note: this may be several weeks into the semester).
3) The parent should go to their supervisor at the University of Utah and ask for a tuition reduction form.
4) The parent should fill out the tuition reduction form. The form must contain the STUDENT'S University ID number, so they will have to wait with this step until the registration forms are processed and the student has his/her University ID number. Otherwise there will be problems!
5) Once the tuition reduction form is completely filled out, the parent needs to send it to "Human Resources" at the U (or take it there, it is located in Research Park now).
6) It may happen that between the time the student gets registered and the time the tuition reduction form is processed the U sends out a bill because the tuition is $150 and only $75 were paid and the U doesn't yet know about the eligibility for the tuition reduction. Should that occur, the parent should contact Human Resources.
